John J. McGlone, PhD,
received his B.S. and M.S. in Animal Science from Washington State University.
In 1981 he earned his PhD from the University of Illinois while being
co-advised by Dr. Stan Curtis in Animal Sciences and Dr. Edwin Banks in the
Ethology group of the department of Ecology, Ethology and Evolution.
He is currently Professor of Animal Science and Director of the Pork
Industry Institute at Texas Tech University.
For over 20 years he has taught Animal Science courses and conducted
research on farm animal behavior, welfare and management.
He served as an ad hoc consultant with AAALAC, International before being
elected as its first Animal Scientist to its Council on Accreditation.
He has led dozens of site visits to research and teaching institutions as
a part of the AAALAC, International process.
In 2002, he received the Animal Management Award from the American
Society of Animal Science. He has
been actively involved with the Federation of Animal Science Societies’ animal
care, use and standards committee and in the development of FASS training
materials for farm animal workers. Dr.
McGlone has published over 100 original refereed publications or book chapters
and many more abstracts and technical reports.
In 2003, a new textbook will be published that he authored with Dr.
Wilson Pond titled Pig Production: Pig Biology and Business Applications. He has been invited to speak in the USA,
Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia on animal behavior, welfare and
management. Dr. McGlone serves as
FACTA, LLC CEO Chief Scientific Officer.
